Words from Brenda D. Spencer:

When my Mother passed away in 2004, my sister and I were there to care for my father, who had spent over 50 years loving her. Now he was lost, grieving, hurting, sick, desperate, and in need of our help. The first three years of caring for my Father were the hardest. He had been a strong Man who took good care of his family all his life, and now he was in need of care. Truth be told, my Father did not want to live without my Mother. We refused to let him give up, and through good, bad, and hard times, we made sure my Father was safe and well taken care of with dignity and respect. With the Grace of God and our family, friends, and health professionals support, my Father lived an additional 13 years and passed away in 2017.

Being a Daughter, mother, and now Grandmother, I know what it means to be a caregiver, and I know what it means to need Care through the love and support of your Family, friends, and health professionals.

This is why I created the Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo because of my firsthand experience with my Father. It is our hope and intention to provide Caregivers and First Responders with some R&R, valuable information, education and career opportunities, guidance, uplifting support, lots of love, and some much-needed Pampering as we go through the journey of life.

Caregivers are everywhere! The impact on this silent, unpaid army of caregivers is immense. Many are devoting more than 20 hours per week to the care of their loved ones. Trying to manage work and family alongside caring for a loved one, it’s no wonder that nearly half of these caregivers admit to feeling stressed and burned out.

In partnership with our non profit host, The Ohio Sickle Cell and Health Association, and the Central Ohio Alzheimer Association, The Caring for the Caregiver Expo believes in giving back to the community! As part of our support for the Caregivers, First Responders, Parents, grandparents, and Guardians in our community, “The Caring for the Caregiver Expo” is a FREE one-day event to say thank you and provide pampering services, health and fitness sessions, education, information, resources, a lunch and learn with featured guest speakers, career and employment opportunities, and much more to Caregivers in Central Ohio, across our great state, and our nation!

We had over 300 Caregivers attend our Inaugural event in 2019 to kick off November's National Caregivers Month. Unfortunately, we had to postpone our 2020 event due to COVID-19.

We were also blessed to receive a letter of support and endorsement from the oldest living former First Lady, Rosalynn Carter, whose famous Quote is “There are only four kinds of people in the world: those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.”

We hosted the 2nd Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo on Saturday, November 6, 2021, where we had over 450 Caregivers in attendance. We hosted the 3rd Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo on November 5, 2022, with over 550 Registered Caregivers. We will host the 4th Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio.

We also have started to expand the Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo to other cities! We hosted our Inaugural Caring for the Caregiver Expo in Toledo, Ohio on October 29, 2022. We have plans to expand to Cities across the state of Ohio and the United States with our next city being Cleveland, Ohio. People have reached out to us from Los Angeles, Tampa, Memphis, Kansas City and Baton Rouge asking us to bring our Caring for the Caregiver Expo to their city!

Through the support of our Sponsors, Exhibitors and Vendor’s everything at the Annual Caring for the Caregiver Expo is “FREE” for our Caregivers including Free parking, free lunch and learn, free pampering services, free get fit and healthy sessions and lots of Give Away’s and Prizes!
